AMA|ROCHESTER: Creating opportunities and providing guidance to young marketing professionals
Local college students will got a jumpstart on their careers, Feb. 6 at the Professional Chapter Collegiate Conference.
Higher education students in western NY have the benefit of tapping into the experience and guidance of Rochester’s smart and savvy marketing professionals. AMA|Rochester is the only local association that provides guidance, marketing programs, networking and volunteer opportunities, and collegiate awards to future young marketing professionals attending area universities and colleges. It is also one of only a few chapters nationwide that dedicates so much time and resources to students.
AMA is in a unique position to assist marketing students as they enter the job force, and members of the chapter are very willing to help out. Professionals volunteer their time to share their expertise, and the chapter welcomes students to its many educational and networking events. The biggest initiative is an annual full day Professional Chapter Collegiate Conference. This year, 85 students attended the event on Feb. 6 where they got advice from Rochester’s experts on:
- Managing their career
- Branding: Insights into the employer candidate considerations
- Marketing technology: Insights into the employer candidate considerations
- Creating a great resume
In addition, AMA|Rochester held a career fair and networking opportunities with local businesses. Another highlight was the announcement of the winning student campaign for Carestream. Students were asked to create a campaign to market the company’s digital imaging products for the veterinary market. With a sponsorship from Brook Lea Country Club, AMA | Rochester awarded $500 cash to the marketing club at Niagara University.
Institutions that are active in AMA|Rochester’s Student Chapter are Nazareth College, Rochester Institute of Technology, St. John Fisher, and Niagara University. Russ McDonald was the conference organizer and Collegiate chair for AMA|Rochester.
